Hare Krishna in the World

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was established in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada).
ISKCON has since developed into a worldwide confederation of 10,000 temple devotees and 250,000 congregational devotees. Better known as the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON is comprised of more than 350 centers, 60 rural communities, 50 schools and 60 restaurants worldwide. The mission of this nonsectarian, monotheistic movement is to promote the well being of society by teaching the science of Krishna consciousness according to Bhagavad-gita and other ancient scriptures.
You can find more detailed information about ISKCON and the Founder at www.krishna.com

Hare Krishna in Amsterdam
Hare Krishna has been a part of Amsterdam since 1971. The first temple was situated in the bijlmer and later in the middle of the Red Light District. From that place we evolved into a bigger place at the Herengracht, then to Keizersgracht and even later to the Hobbemakade. Now we have a place at the Van Hilligaertstraat 17, but that is going to change soon. Our new and bigger temple will be opened in a few months on the Wittenburgergracht.
It has been quite a history and the Hare Krishna people are a well known phenomena by now. Our yearly festival like Ratha Yatra, our appearance on Queensday and our weekly singing and dancing through the Kalverstraat have aided to this.

Our Famous Sunday Feast
On Sunday from 4pm - 8pm we celebrate our well known "Sunday feast". This is an ideal way to get to know us and to come over for a refreshing spiritual shower. Bring an open mind, flexible legs and an empty stomach because our philosophical class will fill your mind, our dancing will flex the muscles and our delicious vegetarian meal will be remembered. Come and bring your friends. There is no need to reserve, just come.

Accommodation in Amsterdam
Unfortunately the ISKCON Amsterdam temple currently has no guesthouse facilities for visiting guests and life members of ISKCON. Our temple is too small. If you are planning to stay in Amsterdam we recommend you to find accommodation elsewhere. Here we list some internet addresses and places in Amsterdam where you can try to book proper accommodation that suits your needs.

Although we can not accommodate you, we do invite you to attend our daily programs and Sunday feast in our temple.

In Belgium (about 350 km from Amsterdam, or a 4 hours drive), in the Ardennen, is our spiritual community "Radhadesh". There are guesthouse facilities available. For bookings and reservations you can visit their website

exclamation-mark Please do not come unannounced and expect that we can arrange immediate accommodation. We cannot. We are very sorry for this inconvenience. Please contact us before you plan your trips. We have already been in the awkward position of sending guests away with all their luggage and belongings.
