Krsna! All glories to Srila Prabhupada UPDATE We’re so excited about this Saturday, our annual Ratha Yatra procession through Amsterdam city centre…and believe me; it promises to be very different. Expect a carnival-type procession which will be a first time world exclusive for ISKCON. The ONLY thing we ask from you is Dress-to-Impress; think of colours with style, think of traditional India but then nice and smart (your most attractive kurthas, dothis, saris). I have this amazing t-shirt with Lord Jagannath. How creative can you get? Just imagine what kind of impact there’ll be with all these amazing kirtaneers combined with such a colourful parade from all over Europe…Their Lordships will be so happy that we are conveying the message of Krsna Consciousness in such a creative way. Stop Press!!! On the 8th August an article appeared in national Dutch newspaper “Trouw”. It is part of a series of articles about “religious” clothing. There’s also beautiful picture of Bhakta Errol & our temple president, H.G. Dhananjaya Das. continued from above…attractive, smart & colourful. The Ratha Yatra this year will be a truly incredible parade/carnival procession with floats, colourful & attractive costumes, dancers, Kirtan bands etc. We will create a visual and musical spectacle that will be attractive and interesting for their Lordships Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra, as well as catching the attention of Amsterdam’s public as we sing & dance through the city centre. Therefore, the parade will be led by a wonderfully decorated “Music” float (a van with a 6m long, 2m wide trailer). The Kirtan band on the trailer will have very powerful amplification for their music. Directly behind the float will be the remaining Kirtan group and dancers, with the musicians organized in groups. The Giri Prabhus Festival crew (UK) has already confirmed leading the Kirtan but so also have many gurukuli kirtaneers from all around Europe. Following this group will be a special costume parade area; expect quite a few of these groups to create a type of carnival procession through Amsterdam. Behind this will be the main crowd followed by the Rath cart itself with Their Lordships. Upon arrival at Dam Square at about 3pm, the Kirtaneers will all merge together to form a mega-kirtan with about 40 musicians and singers. The Kirtan and procession will be sectioned off with tents around the outside for information, prasadam, books/gifts and somewhere to sit and the rest of the public as onlookers. There won’t be all-day entertainment as in previous years but there WILL be this amazing parade/carnival procession. Parade: 12:00 – 15:00 hrs Kirtan (Dam Square): 15:00 – 17:00 hrs. Prasadam (Dam Square): 15:00 – 18:00 hrs More info: http://www.festivalsofindia.nl/ ISKCON Amsterdam Contact
