What a wonderful surprise last Sunday to find out that HG Hari Krishna das (ACBSP) was giving class; as usual he caught everyone's attention with his in-depth explanations. Sunday Feast / Friday kirtan cancelled during last weekend of January 2012
There will be no kirtan evening on Friday evening, 27th January & no Sunday Feast program on Sunday, 29th January. This is because so many devotees and guests will be in Radhadesh for the kirtan weekend. Anyway...the weekly Friday evening kirtan happening is really going quite well, on average there are between 15 - 20 people turn up and this coming Friday won't be any different...we suggest that you definitely give it a try. Also...please note that this Sunday, the Rotterdam devotees will be cooking....mmmmm, yummy!!!

Russian court declares Gita legal (by BBC News Europe)
A Russian court has dismissed a call to ban an edition of the holy book Bhagavad Gita in their country, in a case that triggered protests in India. Prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk wanted the edition to be ruled “extremist”. The Russian foreign ministry said it was the commentary on the text that was under scrutiny. A lawyer representing the movement in Tomsk, Alexander Shakhov, welcomed the judge’s decision, saying it “shows that Russia really is becoming a democratic society”. Dear all, Please Accept our Humble Obeisances,
Last Saturday's 6 hour kirtan marathon
What a wonderful kirtan last Saturday in The Hague. Many, many thanks & humble respects going out to the initiators; HG Jagadananda das, bhakta Miso, bhakta Michel, HG Janmastami das and of course to all others that offered service. There were about 250 people and more later in the afternoon from all over The Netherlands & beyond. A perfect venue, tasty Prasadam, nice sound system & plenty of ecstatic moments made this an event worth repeating.

Fortunately we managed to find a picture when people really started
letting loose; a whole room of people dancing back & forth with
hands-in-the-air was the icing on the cake. We'll keep
you posted about future upcoming kirtans. All that's left to say now is ...dearest Lord Krishna....we want
more, more, more; we can participate every Friday evening at the Amsterdam temple or check out the big one in January at Radhadesh Mellows 2012 here!!!

Last Friday evening kirtan...with 'The Kirtaniyas' from the UKLast but not least is our weekly Friday evening kirtan gathering at the Amsterdam temple from 6pm until 8pm...last week 'The Kirtaniyas' from the UK suddenly turned up and band members Vijay Krishna prabhu & his wife led an amazing kirtan. What is kirtan?In recent weeks there has been so much talk about upcoming kirtan events that we thought it appropriate to give readers more insight...especially for those who don't know anything about kirtan...here are some quotes that might explain...

Madhava Naidoo quotes: 'Kirtan is life and life is Kirtan!!! Breathe Kirtan, eat
kirtan and live kirtan....RADHE SHYAM!!!' It is on the Radhadesh Mellows website that Manu wrote 'Kirtan is an experience like no other. It combines sacred mantra, or spiritual words with vibrant, joyous music that lifts the soul and energizes the body. Its beauty lies in its simplicity. One leader sings the mantra, accompanied by a few instruments. After each line, the group – however large or small, respond with the same line. This call and response continues as the kirtan slowly unfolds'. Gaura Vani (www.GauraVani.com) wrote: 'Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting whose roots go back over 500 years to India. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga (yoga of devotion) and has the power to open the heart. to be missed on Saturday, December 24th...this is a wonderful opportunity to
participate in a 6 hour kirtan...expected to be the biggest kirtan of this type ever

We thank HG Janmastami das for his class last Sunday. He always seems such a cheerful person but that is often said about Krishna Conscious devotees. He read verse 6.17 from the Bhagavad-Gita As It Is emphasising the subject of sleep and the positive effect it has when one sleeps earlier, before 9 or 10pm opposed to the huge amount of sleep one needs if going to bed after midnight; a person needs much more to get the same result. It really was interesting and so much fun...HG Janmastami das giving class last Sunday, 20th November 2011

Translation
He who is regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system.

6 Hour Kirtan - 24th December 2011Not
to be missed on December 24th...this is a wonderful opportunity to
participate in a 6 hour kirtan...expected to be the biggest kirtan ever in Holland chanting the Lord's Holy Names; we definitely
recommend this event. There seems to be quite a lot of talk amongst the community about people going in groups by train or sharing cars and the like. By the way, for those who have never experienced
this kind of kirtan...the congregational singing/chanting of the Holy names of the Lord, this is an amazing way to re-energize and feel peace within. For those wishing to offer service in any way or for more info click here or call 06-24632720...Hari, Hari!!!
